National Locomotive was a start up locomotive rebuilder on the propery of the Morristown & Erie Railroad in Morristown NJ. They had a bunch of retired Norfolk & Western RS36s and RS11s that they were going to rebuild (maybe to create a lease fleet). RS36 #1800, seen here on a rainy June 21, 1978 in Morristown, was the first unit completed. From what I was told (have no firsthand knowledge of this myself), 1800 was sent to Elizabethport where it was load tested by Conrail and unfortunately the prime mover blew. I believe that was pretty much the end of National Locomotive.
