VANCOUVER WA Oct 16 2021 — Northwest Rail Institute SW8 701 (b/n 15739) is a little worse for wear. At this time the loco is no longer in use and the institute appears to be closed. Note that it still wears a previous number (203) stenciled on the front end. The 701 is tied down on the south side of Greenberry Fabrication in the Columbia Business Center. As of Feb 20 2023 the unit is stored farther east in the business center. The unit was acquired from Sterling Bomba and is former Colorado & Wyoming 203. The Columbia Business Center operates on the former site of Kaiser Shipyard. The shipyard was in operation during WWII and is known for producing escort aircraft carriers and other vessels for the U.S. Navy. Thank you to Roger Beckett, Lon Lasher, Randy Keller and Russell Strodtz for responding to my Loconotes query about the switcher. My photo.
