Looking back, it's hard to fully understand things I didn't photograph in my teens. Like why is this the only thing even approaching a 50% clean shot of the transfer table at Elizabethport, NJ? I also had stopped taking photos of end cab EMD switchers unless they were in unusual paint. I suspect NJDOT 438 was the first NJDOT liveried SW9 I ever saw. I former Erie engine, she survives to this day (I believe) in Ringoes, NJ. Here she is on January 8, 1980.
