Phased Out Phase Four. Like a reunion of bygone eras, Amtrak Train 50 (Cardinal) makes the station stop at Clifton Forge, Virginia on October 19, 2022 with AMTK 184 (P42DC, Phase IV) leading. The clapboard 1906 two-story structure in the background was once the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad offices, but now serves CSX personnel as well as Amtrak passengers. The locomotive was painted in the Phase IV scheme which was used from approximately 1993-2000 for the railroad's 40th Anniversary in 2011. After a stay at the Beech Grove, Indiana Amtrak facility, this locomotive was released back into the fleet repainted in the modern era Phase V paint scheme in the beginning of March, 2023.
With Northeast Regional trains, Auto Train and long distance service to Florida, New Orleans and Chicago, a lot of train riding and train watching can be had.
