Sometimes DPU's face the right way, sometimes not. In this case given the orange & green I think of these units as following Great Northern Railway's tradition of running their road switchers long hood first. That changed for GN with the arrival of the GP30s, although first generation power for the most part was never changed to short hood front. Long hood first trains could be seen into the 1980s on occasion on GN's successor BN. BNSF 4741 & 4355 assist a stack train through Cashmere, WA nearing the crew change in Wenatchee after surmounting Stevens Pass. |
