CNW 252 leads a mid day commuter train on C&NW's "West Line", making a brief stop at Berkeley station. This stop is located immediately south of Proviso Yard which at the time was C&NW's only hump yard, and the largest railway yard in Chicagoland. Today Metro makes the stop and Union Pacific owns the track. Proviso is now Global II and the hump is removed.
Several Chicago railroads, including Burlington, Chicago & Northwestern, Illinois Central, Milwaukee Road and Rock Island, provided extensive service to and from the Chicago suburbs.
