Remarks & Notes
EMD siblings line up at Altoona. SD40-2 no. 6821 is from the second order of SD40-2s that CNW made and was received in February 1974, just as I went to work for C&NW. It survived the UP merger rebuilt and renumbered as UP 2970.C&NW was a larger purchaser of non-dynamic brake SD45s when they first came out in the late 60s. However CNW 6574 came from the BN, built as GN's second to last SD45, no. 425, in July 1968 (delivered in Big Sky Blue). Here it is seen in the then new "Zito" safety yellow scheme.
