Remarks & Notes |
At the end of the Iowa Northern's Oelwein Sub is Transco Railway Products. This repair facility has called Oelwein home for over 70 years. The place had to fight to keep rail service connected as they are now at the end of this ex-Chicago and Great Western K-City mainline. Once dubbed "Hub City" back in the CGW days due to over 1,500 miles of track the CGW had and Oelwein was the center headquarters with 4 ways out of town. Now only this line remains. Transco ended up purchasing the line from Dewar to Oelwein from the UP in 2002 and contracted the IANR as an operator. The D&W Railroad as it was named in remembrance for 2 Transco employees who lost their lives on the job. Here their switcher shuffles cars around their buildings. The massive old CGW yard is used for Transco's storage. |
