Union Pacific and Missouri Pacific locomotives are gathered at Yard Center at Dolton on December 3, 1988. MP was merged into UP on December 22, 1982, and initially it was to remain separate in name and image, but a year later, the “image” part disappeared when Jenks blue colors began being covered with Armour yellow. GE C36-7 No. 9055 was delivered new in yellow, but the Missouri Pacific name was still used. Eventually, UP replaced “Missouri” with “Union” on the locomotive sides too, even though MP didn’t officially disappear into the UP until January 1, 1997.
