MARTA To The River. On Tuesday, April 25, 2023, MARTA car 510 (Société Franco-Belge, 1981) arrived at the Trolley Museum of New York in Kingston, New York. The car was brought to the museum by Silk Road Specialized - Jobs, and will be on display for the public to represent the most recent era of rapid transit vehicles to be retired in the United States. It joins a growing number of buses, subway and trolley cars, and other rail equipment from not only New York, but other northeastern cities and Europe in the museum's collection. Opening Day is on Saturday, May 6 and the car will be open to the public.
This car was part of the last part of the group of CQ310 cars to arrive at MARTA in Atlanta, Georgia from 1979-1981. Like sister car 509, which is preserved at the Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth, Georgia, it was built as a single car and has cabs at both ends. All MARTA cars presently being being replaced by four-car sets as part of a 224 car order built by Stadler.
The car is seen at the end of the museum's track in Kingston, New York with the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge in the background across the Hudson River.
