Remarks & Notes |
PURCELL OK (October) 1975 — Santa Fe U36Cs 8726, 8735 and GP39-2 3604 have been cut off their train and moved to the station to accommodate a crew change. Beside them U23B 6341 is on the point of a southbound covered hopper train which is also awaiting a crew. At this time Santa Fe used two different crew pools between Arkansas City KS and Gainesville TX. The long pool crews went the entire distance between the two communities. The short pool crews only went so far as Purcell from both north and south before changing crews. GE built the 8726 in March 1976. It was delivered in Yellow Warbonnet. In March 1986 it was rebuilt as an RCE master, repainted in failed Southern Pacific-Santa FE merger scheme and renumbered as 9350. By Jan 1 1991 it regained its ATSF 9530 Yellow warbonnet paint scheme. Santa Fe retired the unit in August 1995 and National Railway Equipment acquired it. At a later date it was acquired by Mexico’s Ferrocaril del Sureste. Corrections welcome. My photo.
