| If You Restore It...They Will Come. A swarm of onlookers fill the roadway at the 4th Street grade crossing as Santa Fe 2926 simmers on hot display after making the great escape from the New Mexico Steam Locomotive & Railroad Historical Society's "World Headquarters" restoration sight a half-mile to the west. The move of the locomotive to the 4th Street grade crossing, putting it adjacent to Tractor Brewing for a one-day fundraiser event, marked the first time Santa Fe 2926 moved out of its restoration site under its own power following more than 20 years of hard work by the NMSL&RHS. The move also marked the first time in 70 years that a 2900-class locomotive traveled a significant distance under its own power. |
