Amtrak locomotive 597, a model 2GS12B-R genset built by National Railway Equipment in 2014, is seen shuffling around Washington Union Station, where it works moving equipment to and from Ivy City Yard. These locomotives were rebuilt by NRE from SW1000 units, which were rebuilt 20 years prior from SW9 locomotives - also by NRE! Also of interest in this view are K Tower in the background, the dwarf position color light signal in the foreground, and the Loram Railvac ballast excavating machine laid up in front of the tower.
