Remarks & Notes |
Over the years many unusual locomotives have found their way to NYS&W rails. The short-lived era of Susquehanna's control over the bankrupt Delaware & Hudson was one such time period when you never quite knew what would show up next. Here we see Southern (CNO&TP) GP50 7039 leading local WS-1 east across the Saddle River bridge in Rochelle Park, NJ. This was most likely a one-time event as the unit should have been assigned to the next westbound road train. The "borrowing" of road power for daytime locals was quite common at the time, but a Southern Railway locomotive in local service was anything but common. 7039 would later be rebuilt by NS as RP-M4C road slug 713. |
