With plenty of freight to move, and a scramble to acquire used locomotives to fill its roster, early Wisconsin Central was a colorful railroad. Three weeks after its startup, WC train 42 approaches the Soo Line’s former Milwaukee Road main line crossing at Duplainville, Wisconsin, on October 31, 1987. Powering the Chicago-bound train is Soo GP9 No. 2410, former Milwaukee/Soo SDL39 No. 583, WC GP35 No. 4007 and WC SD45 No. 6539 still in Burlington Northern Cascade green.
