The 100th Anniversary of the BMT! On June 15, 2023, The New York Transit Museum and Metropolitan Transportation Authority - MTA NYCT Subway celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit Company (BMT) assuming control of the bankrupt Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company (BRT) on June 15, 1923. The museum's operating set of AB Standards (2390/2391/2392) was brought out on the F/Culver Line for the public to ride and photograph between Kings Highway and 18th Avenue stations, with the R9 train kept as a protect set. At the beginning of the day, R1 381 leads the museum train out of Coney Island Yard to the Avenue X station. Of note, NYCT 381 was the first south facing car on the original test train of R1s, which operated on the BMT since the IND had not yet been completed. Thank you to all who came out and participated in the events of the day.
