Early Departure Meets Long Light Day. It certainly helped that sunset was at 2030 because the when the train showed up at 2035 on Monday, June 19, 2023 at the MTA Metro-North Riverdale Station in the Bronx, New York, it was not 3 hours after sunset like in a winter month. For some reason, a fairly short CSX M704-19 (with CSXT SD40-32 8014, SD40-3 1712 and AC44CW 487) left Oak Point what we would call "early" and made its way out on to the Hudson Line. Although its south/eastbound counterpart M701 will come through here in light more than a few times a year for a variety of reasons, the early north/westbound is "rare" indeed.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
