Night On The Naugy. On Saturday, June 24, 2023 the Railroad Museum of New England held a night photo event at the restored former 1881 New York, New Haven, and Hartford Railroad station building in Thomaston, Connecticut. The locomotives that had been used during the day, NAUG 2019 (née-NH 2049, FL9, EMD, 11/1960) and NUAG 859 (née-NW 859, GP9, 6/1959), were supplemented with recently repainted BM 1109 (SW1, EMC, 11/1939) to create a memorable evening for the participants.
The building itself was restored after many years of neglect and a devastating fire. Further, in 1995, Guilford (Boston & Maine) had abandoned their operations on this trackage that had been purchased by the State of Connecticut to be preserved for potential future use. Today it is home to a thriving tourist and freight railroad that has reinvigorated the line. In preparation for the event, Maine Central (MEC) box car 6323 was repainted and paired up with the SW1 to create another scene for the photographers to enjoy. Several crew members posed in period appropriate clothing, and another brought vintage lanterns for them to use. Thank you to everyone who came out from the railroad to support the event and everyone who attended to support the museum!
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
