Faces of the LIRR.
Two Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) trains are seen sitting on adjacent tracks at Penn Station, awaiting their departures to points east. On Track 14 at left is M7 no. 7056 (Bombardier, 1999-2006) with train 864 to Long Beach, and on Track 15 at right is M3 no. 9884 (Budd Metropolitan, 1984-1986) with train 1964 to Ronkonkoma.
The nation's busiest passenger railroad depends every day on a fleet of nearly 1,000 multiple unit cars to bring hundreds of thousands of commuters to and from their jobs.
