It may be early January, but there is not a lot of snow on the San Gabriel Mountains as BNSF train M-WATBAR1-06, a merchandise train ("Look, Ma! No double-stacks!") that originated in Watson CA and is heading to Barstow CA, climbs southern California's Cajon Pass. The train is led by BNSF Dash 9-44CWs 5290 and 974, BNSF GP40-2R 3005 (ex-BN GP40M 3506, ex-BN GP40 3028, née-CBQ GP40 628), EMDX SD60 9033 and BNSF Dash 9-44CW 4676 (with two Distributed Power Units on the rear: BNSF ES44C4s 6728 and 6752). Having just passed through Alray, the train is approaching well-known railfan hangout "Hill 582". (Cajon Pass, California – January 7, 2006)
