Service Restored. On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, the first thru train from Grand Central Terminal to Wassaic, New York, MTA Metro-North Railroad Train 943, was led by Connecticut DOT/Metro-North Railroad 230 (P32AC-DM, New Haven Tribute) with its Penn Central "patch" decal. The train is seen crossing Lakeview Avenue in Valhalla, New York, one of the earliest in the day locations to catch light on the nose of a locomotive on this line. While the washouts caused by Sunday's rain on the Hudson Line caught more attention of the public, the Harlem Line service was also affected and service was only restored with this train's running. Not restored was service beyond Wassaic to Chatham, New York, which saw its south/eastbound passengers stranded on March 20, 1972 by this very Penn Central Company when the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) ruled that PC could abandon service north of Dover Plains, New York, and they did so immediately with the north/westbound runs ending there on that day.
