The Lake Shore Limited Detours Over The Hudson. Ongoing repairs to tracks near the interlocking at CP 169 caused Amtrak Train 48 (Lake Shore Limited) to detour over the CSX Selkirk Branch on the afternoon of Sunday, August 6, 2023. Some Amtrak crews recently completed annual requalification over this territory, and it was quickly put in to use. The train traveled over the normally freight only Selkirk Branch across the Alfred H. Smith Memorial Bridge Castleton Bridge and the Berkshire Sub (Former Boston & Albany Railroad) before having additional locomotives added to change direction for the final leg of the detour route to the Albany-Renssealer, New York Station and continuing to its terminals in New York, New York (48) and Boston, Massachusetts (448). Regular passenger service over the former New York Central Alfred H. Smith Memorial Bridge Castelton Bridge ended in 1979 with the reinstallation of the Post Road Branch and rerouting of the Lake Shore Limited. This marked the first time since 2016 that a revenue Amtrak crossed the Mohawk River over the bridge in Pattersonville, New York and the first time since 2011 for the Alfred H. Smith Memorial Bridge Castleton Bridge.
