Like A Chicago Seventies Scene With Tri-X. It was not the 1970s but a very retro moment on April 15, 2022 when Amtrak Train 6 (California Zephyr) with AMTK 130 (P42DC, Phase II) and Amtrak 4 (Southwest Chief) AMTK 161 (P42DC, Phase I) sat next to each other at Chicago Union Station in Chicago, Illinois. The "bloody nose" of Phase I was Amtrak's first widespread paint scheme, spanning from approximately 1972-1974, and gave way to the also fairy short lived Phase II, which lasted from 1974-1976. Amtrak began to recreate these paint schemes as heritage units for the 40th Anniversary in 2011, and after initially having a fairly uniform locomotive fleet paint scheme in the Phase V era, has added to the variety in years since.
