Big Boy On Easy Street. The Union Pacific Railroad's 4014 ("Big Boy", 4-8-8-4, Alco, 1941) made a stop in the community of Luling, Louisiana in St.Charles Parish on August 20, 2021 on the UP main in this area between Easy Street and Luling Street. A short time afterwards, the locomotive would cross the Huey P. Long Bridge to the delight of area railfans, many of who were already holding their spots for the big event, and skipped these smaller spots. The dark color of the 1983 built cable-stayed Hale-Boggs Memorial Bridge in the background, spanning the Mississippi River and connecting Luling with Destrehan, is an intended effect of the unpainted weathering of the steel towers and superstructure, intended to reduce maintenance.
