The second to last Chicago to Milwaukee bound Amtrak Hiawatha of the day, train #339 pops around the corner as it passes the 100+ year old Tower A2 just outside Downtown Chicago with one of Amtrak’s Dash 8’s, #519 leading. These classic B32-8WH’s were built by General Electric In 1991 as road power for Amtrak. Once they were replaced by P42’s, they’ve been captive as yard goats since. Every once in awhile in a scenario like this, the Dash 8’s can escape yard service and make appearances on passenger trains as needed. In this case, the 519 has been on the Hiawatha trains back and forth from Chicago to Milwaukee the last few days. Even after a minor mechanical issue the evening prior.
