| Rows of Conrail ore jennies provide a backdrop for a gathering of SW1500s at Greenwich yard in South Philadelphia. Ore and coal were once two of the primary commodities handled at this former PRR facility, which had direct access to piers in the adjacent Delaware River. Today, under CSX and NS control, this yard handles local freight classification as well as unit oil/ethanol trains. An expanded intermodal terminal has been built alongside the elevated I-95 expressway in the distance. Direct rail service to the piers is now a distant memory. |
