Remarks & Notes |
Duesenberg or Jitterbug? Chicago Transit Authority Car 5001 was 1 of 2 constructed by Pullman Standard Car Company in 1947 (2 similar were built by St. Louis Car Company) that incorporated PCC all electric design into a three-section articulated aluminum body and a steel reinforced frame. While the order was originally going to be much larger, ultimately these 4 were the only cars ordered of this design and would operate but also serve as test cars for the later 6000 series. This car was retired in 1985 and came to our museum in 1986. During an event last year, a retired CTA worker noted that these cars were called "Duesenbergs" after the car company known for its large luxury automobiles but also nicknamed "Jitterburgs". |
