Due to novel coronavirus pandemic crisis, Indian Railways started running Doodh(Milk) Duronto Special Train to provide uninterrupted milk supply to Delhi region. Introduced by the South Central Railway zone of Indian Railways from Renigunta in the state of Andhra Pradesh to Delhi, the Doodh Duronto Special Train aims to maintain an adequate supply of milk to capital city. These are special trains carrying 6-8 milk tanks in order to transport milk. Each tanker has a capacity of 40,000 litres, which sums up to a total milk capacity of 3.2 lakh litres per train. Earlier, the railways transported milk by attaching milk tanks to passenger carrying trains. But these faster running durontos proved much more successful than expected. These special train is operated without any detention on the way and with an average speed of 110 km per hour so that the milk train reaches the destination as quickly as possible. Taking advantage of these faster trains, several parcel transporters have approached railways for transporting their commodities like fruits and vegetables with these milk duronto specials.
