A westbound BNSF Office Car Special climbs Bozeman Pass just east of Muir, Montana, on Montana Rail Link’s Second Subdivision main line on October 7, 2023. This deadhead move is also transporting two sets of “snow coaches” for winter train crew service on railroad’s Northwest and Montana Divisions. In 2019, BNSF rebuilt two former Santa Fe Hi-Level coaches and two baggage cars for this service and they are used when winter snow conditions are too hazardous to utilize highway crew vans.
