Remarks & Notes |
MARTIN UT August 9 1981. — Utah Railway RSD15 403 idles at the engine facility while awaiting its next coal train assignment. The alligator was built by Alco as Santa Fe 847 (b/n 83057) in June 1960 in blue body with yellow ends (bookends) with blue herald on the nose. As part of the Santa Fe’s general renumbering it became ATSF 9847 on Oct 10 1962. Sometime after its renumbering it was repainted in blue body with yellow warbonnet and blue herald on the nose. Santa Fe retired the unit on Jan 15 1975 and sold it on that date to Precision National Corp, Mount Vernon IL with PNC acting as a dealer for the Utah’s RSD-15s. The 403 was acquired by Utah Railway on Oct. 28 1975. On Oct 31 1975 it was shipped to Utah from the PNC facility and entered service on the Utah still in its yellow warbonnet. Its last day of service on the Utah was May 13 1982. It was retired on May 14 1982 and was sold for scrap in November 1983 to Industrial Salvage & Metals (Salt Lake City UT) and scrapped in early January 1984.
