Remarks & Notes |
BN 986 rests at Harrison St. next to the roundhouse in Minneapolis. The former GN NW5 along with NW2s and Alco S-2 switchers were among the oldest power inherited by BN when the merger occurred in March 1970. The Also switchers were short lived, but the NW2 & 5s continued their work for several more years. BN 986 still looked pretty much like it did in Great Northern days in July 1973. Note the former GN heater car parked with it. These were made from old F booster units in the 1960s, and wore the GN simplified orange/green scheme as well as Big Sky Blue. In addition to BN paint, some were painted in Amtrak. |
