Scrapping 2023. Former CDOT FL-9 2023 (née-New Haven 2057) is the 3rd to last F unit built by EMD. The FL-9 order was a custom design for the New York, New Haven, and Hartford Railroad and the State Of Connecticut, including dual mode electric and diesel-electric motors for travel to New York City underground. The second to last FL-9, NH 2058 is owned by Webb Rail LLC - WEBX, the last, NH 2059, is owned by Railroad Museum of New England. Traditionally, the last shot of the night is a "scrapping" shot, where a museum item is the subject of a demonstration (no actual harm is done), and for this year's event, this locomotive was chosen.
Night In Willimantic, Take 19! On Saturday, October 21, 2023, the Connecticut Eastern Railroad Museum hosted its 19th Annual Night Photo Shoot. This museum in Willimantic, Connecticut a the site of the former Columbia Junction Freight Yard. The grounds are a combination of vintage and reconstructed buildings accented by vintage railroad equipment. The reconstructed Columbia Junction Roundhouse and transplanted Armstrong turntable are the centerpiece of the grounds, that also include other restored buildings, locomotives, rail cars and historic artifacts. A group of local actors called Steamposh joined in the fun, allowing for a different take on the night's activities.
Photos of North America's favorite First Generation locomotives. EMD, ALCO, Baldwin; essentially anything that represents the OG wide cab diesel locomotive
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
