Not visible through the snow is the 1902 date above the arch of the tunnel, the date when the New York Central completed the structure on the West Shore Railroad, the modern day CSX River Sub. New York Central Railroad bought controlling interest in the New York, West Shore and Buffalo Railway on November 24, 1885 from the Pennsylvania Railroad in a deal coordinated by J.P.
