Remarks & Notes
Light Locomotive. New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA) R77 locomotive 897 (GE SL50, 1983) is seen approaching Whitlock Ave Station on the IRT Pelham Line, headed towards Manhattan. The large through truss bridge in the background carries the subway over the Hell Gate Line - now part of Amtrak's Northeast Corridor - and visible between the bridge and the signal at right is the former Westchester Avenue Station of the New York, Westchester & Boston Railway. The 1915 station was designed by renowned architect Cass Gilbert, but sadly nowadays is in a severe state of deterioration.
