Copper Basin Railway train OT-1, with 60 cars loaded with 7800 tons of sulfide ore from the copper mine at Ray, heads southbound through a Saguaro forest toward Ray Junction on its run to the smelter at Hayden. Today's train is pulled by GP39-2 403, GP39 505, GP39 401 and GP9 207. Once off the Ray Block, the train will be considered eastbound. In the background one can see how much humans have altered these mountains in search of a precious metal. One wonders if ASCARCO Copper Corporation, who now owns all this, will ever restore it once the quarry plays out. (Ray Junction, Arizona – February 9, 2008)
