Looking like a rain forest setting rather than Florida, the DeSoto Turn passes through Punta Gorda on its way to the CSX interchange in Arcadia, FL. More than a year after Hurricane Charley made landfall here, damage to the trees and a home are still evident in the background.
Spring forward to present, and the railroad has again made it through another (and much more damaging) hurricane, and only recently restored service to Fort Myers after the castrophic damage to the Caloosahatchie River bridge has finally been repaired, which had the line severed for over a year after Hurricane Ian decimated the area.
Here's wishing the railroad a good future. Many thought the company could not rebuild without major government assistance but the Fay family persisted and funded the repairs without government disaster assistance.
