On March 20, 1949, the first run of the original California Zephyr departed Chicago, Illinois, bound for the west coast. A 75th anniversary run of the westbound California Zephyr, Amtrak’s train 5, departed Chicago on March 20, 2024, and is seen here at the station stop of Fraser, Colorado, on March 21st. On the right in the siding at Fraser is Amtrak’s Winter Park Express during its midday layover before taking skiers back to Denver in the afternoon.
