As the British Columbia display train nears its destination, Los Angeles Union Passenger Terminal, BC 4-6-4 2860 has not gotten onto Union Pacific's Los Angeles Sub, on which Southern Pacific has trackage rights. And, thanks to the peculiarity of SP's directions – anything heading away from San Francisco is eastbound – this train is now technically westbound because that's how UP does things … Apparently, UP uses a compass! The train is nearing UP's Pasadena Junction on the Los Angeles River's east bank, and the "Royal Hudson" and its train have just passed under the Santa Fe's Second District, which heads to Pasadena as well. The train is now less than five miles from the end of its journey from British Columbia. (Los Angeles, California – March 29, 1977)
