A pair of BNSF SD40-2s – 1773 (formerly BNSF 6958, originally ATSF 5213 … was it obvious?) and 1646 (ex-BNSF 6765, née-ATSF 5106) – idle in the Emporia Yard, awaiting their next call to duty working on a local. These two sure looked good and sounded great sitting there! That old Santa Fe paint on the 1773 sure looks good, although it is not the original paint (as evidenced by the style of lettering on the hood – those are not the letters that EMD would have applied). But that Yellow Warbonnet paint job is no newer than 24 years old (since the BNSF was created in 1995), and likely at least a few years older than that, and it has really held up well!
