What's the 411? Cemex/SWPC (SouthWest Portland Cement) SDP35 411 (ex-Seaboard Coast Line 1962, exx-SCL 612, née-Seaboard Air Line 1111, EMD, 9/1964) sits at the Victorville, California facility on April 4, 2022. Powered by an EMD 567D3A 16-cylinder engine, the "P" indicates the addition of a steam generator for passenger service. Ironically, 35 model SDP35 locomotives were produced, and today an example of this class, SAL 1114, can be found preserved and on display in Hamlet, North Carolina. The future is unclear for SWPC 411 as it had not moved in quite some time and is rumored to have been replaced under a grant that brought a KLW (Knoxville Locomotive Works) Tier 4 EPA compliant locomotive to the property. Under these agreements, typically the locomotive's prime mover must be disabled, but the unit itself can be preserved.
