An Amtrak San Diegan set sits in Los Angeles Union Station awaiting its next run (I assume south, as the one going to Santa Barbara was on another track). F40PH #229 was built in May of 1975 and was part of Amtrak's first order of the model that would become the railroad's first truly successful diesel purchase. At this point, it was 18-years-old and ready for maybe another ten years on the roster before its eventual conversion into NCPU cab car 90229.
Huge Album that Includes over 2,600+ photos of classic passenger trains across USA & Canada before and during the time of Amtrak & VIA Rail. More Images will be Added.
Stretching from San Luis Obispo to San Diego, the Surf Line has become Amtrak's second busiest route. See the Pacific Surfliner and San Diegan in action along with trains from predecessors Santa Fe and Southern Pacific.
