| Since the derailment of a freight train in the west tunnel of the Gotthard base tunnel in August 2023, only the east bore is still in operation. Passenger traffic still travels via the Gotthard mountain route. "Giruno" highspeed trains of type RABe 501 of the SBB in multiple control are running the IC 869 of the line IC2 from Zürich via the Gotthard mountain line to Bellinzona and Lugano, running over the south portal of the 57 kilometer long Base Tunnel at Pollegio. |
