After departing Los Angeles, Amtrak train 4, the eastbound Southwest Chief, arrived at its first stop, Fullerton, 20 minutes behind schedule. But this allowed the setting sun, which had been obscured by clouds almost all day, to pop out for an appearance. One of Amtrak's 50th Anniversary Heritage locomotives, P42DC 161, wearing the carrier's original paint scheme (thus dubbed "Phase I"), leads the Chicago-bound train this evening, teamed with P42DC 194.
