Remarks & Notes
During late 1976 and all of 1977, you didn't need the internet to know that there were three E7s still in service on Conrail's North Jersey Coast Line (former New York & Long Branch) between South Amboy and Bayhead. I made many visits down there, by train, to visit them and their younger brother E8s, but it was a time before I really understood about "sun" being a part of your photography. By the summer of 1978, I believe all three were parked OOS, #4244 and 4233 together on this track. While none of the three would survive, by this time an all-ready retired E7 (4201) had found its way to the Pennsylvania Railroad Musuem. One keen memory of hanging out and taking photos like this in South Amboy was talking to the rails. I remember them calling these by Pennsy terms, EP20s, and the E8s were EP22s. I also remember being told the EP20s were "a real pain."
