| Amtrak "Open Express" test train 873 (running as P948 on CSX) hustles south through Sanford on the CSX Aberdeen Sub behind both NCDOT F59PHIs and a consist of Piedmont coaches. They're heading to Aberdeen to pick up a dome car on the ACWR which will be used on a series of trips from Raleigh and Pinehurst for the US Open golf tournament later in June. Sanford sees the Silver Star in each direction with a traditional Amtrak single level LD consist, but the NCDOT equipment is very unusual here. |
