E8s Were Old Even Then. On Saturday, December 16, 2023, Conrail Shared Assets operated a "Santa Train" to Haddon Heights, New Jersey. During the afternoon, toys were distributed to area children, who also had the opportunity to meet Santa. Juniata Terminal Railroad's former Pennsylvania Railroad E8 5711 (EMD, 10/1952) was joined by cars "120" and "Warrior Ridge" (1157) and bookended with JTCX 9615 (MP15) for the journey. The consist was returning to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania when it passed the Audubon, New Jersey station while a late 1970s Oldsmobile waits at the railroad crossing. This passenger station was built by the Reading Railroad in the late 1800s, and would become part of the jointly owned (with the Pennsylvania Railroad) Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines, today it is a dental office. By the time this GM Oldsmobile was built, the EMD was already a quarter-century old. When these vehicles were built, both companies were controlled by the General Motors Corporation, though today Oldsmobile is no more and the former GM Electro-Motive Diesel is controlled by Progress Rail.
