On 8 June 2024, the Rhaetian Railway's new 5860-metre Albula Tunnel II between Preda and Spinas was officially inaugurated and from 12 June, trains will run on schedule through the new tunnel, which has been under construction since 2014. The project was around 4 years behind schedule, partly due to corona and delivery delays in connection with the Ukraine conflict. Over the next two years, the old tunnel will be rebuilt into a safety tunnel, which will be connected to the new tunnel by a total of 12 cross-passages. Ge 4/4 II # 627 and # 612 of the Rhaetian Railway in multiple control are leaving the Albula tunnel II in Spinas with freight train 5135 from Landquart freight yard over the Albula line to Pontresina.
