"The New Toy Arrives"
On the afternoon of July 3rd, 2024, New York & Atlantic Railway RS-90, led by GMTX and CEFX leasers, shoves New York City Transit's (NYCT) brand new Wabtec WAB6HYB (R255) #HL001 down the "Transit Siding" at the entrance to Linden Yard on the Bay Ridge Branch in Brooklyn, New York. Linden Yard, one of only two connections the New York City Subway has to the national rail network, is typically used to interchange railroad supplies such as stick rail and ties.
The WAB6HYB (R255), is a 675hp hybrid battery locomotive built by Wabtec Corporation (formerly GE Transportation) in Erie, Pennsylvania. These locomotives are specially designed to meet all of New York City Transit's subway standards and can operate on battery power for up to 8 hours. They will be used to power work trains throughout the system. HL001 is the second out of 25 units scheduled for delivery.
