Rerouted NS 23G: On December 8, 2017, CSX Q404 derailed on the Conrail Lehigh Line at the west end of CP Townley in Union, NJ. As a result of the derailment, Crossover #3 was damaged and removed. Almost 7 years later on Saturday, July 13, 2024, Crossover #3 was finally being reinstalled. As a result of the reinstallation, freight traffic needed to be rerouted to the Garden State Secondary and the Port Reading Secondary. Here, a rerouted NS 23G is seen westbound on the Port Reading Secondary about to take an “Approach Medium” at the “2 West” Distant Signal just before entering the Conrail Lehigh Line at CP Bound Brook. Behind this train are westbounds NS 269 and CSX I158. In a touch of irony, CSX M404 (the renamed symbol for CSX Q404) had to wait about 2 hours for the westbound traffic to clear up before receiving clearance east onto the single tracked Port Reading Secondary. The leader was rebuilt from C44-9W NS 9344 in March of 2022. Behind the leader is NS 1057 (SD70ACe).
