Geep At The State Line Tunnel. Amtrak Train 1246 (Berkshire Flyer) had an unusual east end locomotive on Sunday, July 14, 2024. GP38-3 AMTK 743 (Phase VII) is wearing the railroad's newest paint scheme as it exits State Line Tunnel in Canaan, New York on the return trip from Pittsfield, Massachusetts to Albany-Rensselaer, New York. The summer only Berkshire Flyer service is on its third year of operation. On the other end is a standard P32AC-DM providing head end power to the train as this locomotive does not have that capability and is only there to facilitate the changing ends in Pittsfield and will be removed before the final leg of the trip to New York Penn Station. The geographically north tunnel to the left in this photo was a once part of the two track Boston & Albany (later New York Central Railroad), but has been unused for many years.
Not
just heritage schemes, not just commemorative schemes - this album is devoted to some of the world's most interesting paint schemes, past or present.
